What is Member Protection?
Surf Life Saving Queensland uses Surf Life Saving Australia’s Policy 6.05 – Member Protection, under this policy it creates a safe, fair, and inclusive environment for everyone. It sets the precedent for all involved in Surf Life Saving to be treated with respect and dignity, and be protected from discrimination, bullying, harassment, and abuse. The member protection policy highlights the legal and ethical rights and responsibilities and standard of behaviour for those involved in SLS.
For persons under the age of 18 Policy 6.04 – Child Safe portrays the responsibility of all to protect younger members. Further, SLSA Policy 6.04A – Child Safe Commitment is about keeping young person’s safe. Keeping young person’s safe is a responsibility for all involved within SLS.
Here at SLSQ there are many Volunteer Roles within Member Protection, including Member Protection Information Officer, Peer Support Officer, Child Safety Coordinator and Complaints Manager. These roles provide SLSQ Members the opportunity to create a safe and fair environment.
