To assist in developing a strategy we have prepared an action plan and the basic documents you will require. You should start with the Club Child and Youth Risk Management Strategy Action Plan Template (1a) which will assist you in collecting all the documents you will require.
Note that the club/ branch will need to amend the various documents to suit each unique operating environment and have the strategy adopted by its executive and minuted accordingly. Simply download templates and update with your club logo and edit content as required.

The CYRMS must address the following key areas to comply with the Act:

Statement of Commitment
- A statement about commitment (Statement of Commitment) to the safety and wellbeing of children and the protection of children from harm;
Codes of Conduct
- A code of conduct for interacting with children and young people.
Capability
Volunteer Management
- Written procedures for recruitment, selection, training and managing of staff and volunteers.
Concerns
Receiving and Reporting Disclosures or Suspicions of Harm
- Policies and procedures for handling disclosures and suspicions of harm, including reporting guidelines;
Managing Breaches to the CYRMS
- A plan for managing breaches of the risk management strategy;
Risk management plans for high risk activities and special events.
Consistency
Compliance with Blue Card Legislation
- Policies and procedures for compliance with blue card system including maintaining a register of staff who hold blue cards;
Strategies Communication & Support
- Strategies for communication and support including:
- written information for parents/carers, paid employees and volunteers outlining the risk management strategy;
Receiving and Reporting Disclosures or Suspicions of Harm
- Training material for paid employees and volunteers to help them identify risks of harm and handle disclosures.
- The Club Child and Youth Risk Management Strategy Action Plan Template (1a) is your focal point to making sure you meet the legislative requirements.
- The process of creating a safe and supportive service environment for children and young people is a dynamic and ongoing process of developing, monitoring and review.
- You should continue to enhance your strategy by conducting regular reviews in order to incorporate any changes within your organisation.
