Surf Life Saving Clubs that provide junior development programs ensure that the next generation learns valuable life skills and knowledge that one day might save their life, or even perhaps the life of another. Junior members are also an integral part of an Surf Life Saving Club’s pipeline to future active membership.

Junior members from the ages of 5–14 years participating in surf education awards or junior surf sports are traditionally referred to as Nippers.

The Junior Activities program at Surf Lifesaving Queensland is designed to introduce young people to the skills and values of surf lifesaving. The program aims to develop their confidence, fitness, teamwork and leadership abilities in a fun and safe environment. The program also offers opportunities for social interaction, personal growth and community service. The Junior Activities program is open to children aged 5 to 14 years old, who can participate in various activities such as beach sprints, board paddling, surf swimming, first aid and rescue techniques. The program is delivered by qualified and experienced surf lifesavers, who provide guidance and mentoring to the junior members. The Junior Activities program is a great way to learn new skills, make new friends and contribute to the safety of the public on Queensland’s beaches.
