Club Application

Clubs are to complete the Patrol Exemption / Proficiency request form and submit to SLSQ Surf Sport Department.

Requests must be received by the end of the month or before the close of entries for respective State Championships whichever occurs first.

No exemption will be received from an individual member, all requests must be completed by the member’s surf club.

SLSQ Assessment

SLSQ Surf Sport Department will review the request to ensure that the application is completed properly, and that any required additional information is included in the application. If the application is not completed correctly or information is missing SLSQ Surf Sport will liaise with the respective club.

Branch Review

SLSQ Surf Sport will forward the request to the respective Branch Director of Lifesaving and Director of Surf Sport so that both can review the request and provide a determination. The BDOLS & BDOSS need to consult on the application noting the change to the SLSA Policy and the way in which members can accumulate the required Patrol Hours for competition.

The BDOLS & BDOSS can consult with the Branch Executive and any club personnel that they feel may assist in making their determination of the request. The BDOLS & BDOSS will advise SLSQ Surf Sport of the outcome of the request within 10 business days of receiving the application. If the Branch does not provide a response within the 10 Business days of receiving the request, the request will be forwarded to the SLO & SSO for review and determination.

SLSQ Review

On receiving the request back from the Branch SLSQ Surf Sport will forward the request to the SLO & SSO so that both can review the request and provide a determination. The SLO & SSO need to consult on the application noting the change to the SLSA Policy and the way in which members can accumulate the required Patrol Hours for competition.

As per the SLSA Policy & Guidelines the State Lifesaving Officer will have the final endorsement of the application.

If the Branch rejects the request, it will still be forwarded to the SLS & SSO for review.

The SLO & SSO can consult with the Branch Executive and any club personnel that they feel may assist in making their determination of the request. The SLO & SSO will advise SLSQ of the outcome of the request within 10 business days of receiving the application.

Outcome

Once SLSQ Surf Sport is advised of the outcome of the request by the SLO & SSO, SLSQ will:

  • advise both the Club and SLSA if the request is approved in writing,
    or
  • advise the club of its right of appeal under the SLSA Policy if the request is rejected.

Records

All applications will be held by SLSQ for 12 months prior to disposing of the application.
