The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) is a government agency in Queensland, Australia, that is responsible for administering and enforcing a range of laws and regulations to protect consumers, businesses, and the community.

The OFT can also provide guidance and assistance to registered clubs in meeting their obligations, and may take enforcement action if clubs are found to be in breach of the law.

Key obligations under

  1. Annual reporting: Clubs may be required to submit an annual report to the OFT for updated of Officer Bearer or Club address changes
  2. Changes to rules: Any changes to the club’s rules or constitution must be lodged within 3 months of the change being made.
  3. Financial management: Registered clubs must maintain accurate financial records and ensure that their financial management practices comply with relevant laws and regulations. The OFT may conduct audits or inspections to ensure compliance.
  4. Responsible conduct of gaming: Clubs that operate gaming machines or conduct other forms of gambling must comply with relevant laws and regulations, including those relating to responsible gambling practices.
  5. Consumer protection: Registered clubs must comply with laws and regulations relating to consumer protection, such as those relating to advertising and marketing practices, product safety, and fair trading.
  6. Dispute resolution: Registered clubs are required to have a dispute resolution process in place to handle complaints or disputes from members or customers. SLSQ has the Complaints procedure in place for all clubs.
  7. Compliance with the Associations Incorporation Act: Registered clubs are required to comply with the Associations Incorporation Act 1981, which outlines the requirements for the registration, management, and dissolution of associations, including registered clubs.
