Overview

When you install multiple devices that are identical in Manufacturer and Model, you will want to save yourself some time in the Builder by Copying and Pasting those devices with a keyboard shortcut. This process will work, however there are some items that you should be aware of when you use this feature.

How does copy and paste work?

By using the below keyboard shortcuts, you can select a Device in the builder and duplicate that same model Device for use with the second piece of hardware

Command + C to Copy then Command + V to Paste using MAC
Control + C to Copy then Control + V to Paste using PC

Editing Driver

When Devices are copied, the Device ID remains the same for each device. Therefore, if you edit a Device within the Builder all references to that Device within your Space will also be updated.

  • This feature is beneficial if all devices require the same update
  • If you only need to edit a single device, you will want to download additional devices from the database for each piece of controlled equipment

Follow Up

Before you copy and paste Devices inside the Builder make sure you understand what could happen if a Device requires editing. Do all your controlled devices need the edits? Are you adding a single command to a specific device that should not be used across the other devices? These are the questions to ask yourself when controlling identical devices.
