Work classification and WBS

Introduction

This feature introduces several changes to improve the functionality and the quality of existing work type functionality, as follows:

The existing “work type” field (which uses a report sorting field) is replaced by a new database field called “work classification”
It is now possible to link a WBS template to a work classification so that a specific WBS plan is automatically copied to a matter using a particular work classification
A default WBS template can now be applied to all projects, if desired

Feature management

This feature can be made available to users using Feature management. The feature is call “(evergreen) Work classification”

Workspace > Feature management > (evergreen) Work classification

Work classification form

There is a new form for maintaining work classifications. It also allows a classification to be associated with an active WBS templates

PMA >> Set up >> Project >> Work Classification

Field behaviour

Button	Description
Work classification ID	Allow User to know Work classification ID, also allow them to Select from the Drop down
Description	Allow User to update the Description text
WBS template	Allow user to show the ONLY Active WBS template in Drop down and allow them to Select

Set up

Default WBS template parameter

If an organisation wants to configure a default WBS template for all matters which don’t have a template assigned to a work classification, this parameter will allow them to do that:

Project Management accounting >> Set up >> Project Management and accounting >> Scheduling

Security

Users must be assigned security privileges before they will be able to view or edit work classifications.

Work classification on a Project

Work classification is assigned to a project when it is created; the new project quick form has been changed accordingly:

Project Management and accounting >> Projects >> All Projects >> Click on New

The work classification will appear under the “Report Sorting” fast-tab, so that it is adjacent to the current “work type” field (also known as sort field 1):

The Work Classification ID should default on the Reporting and Sorting Fast tab depending on the Creation of Matter; if Work Classification is Blank, then it defaults to the blank Value. In edit mode, the value assigned to the matter can be changed by selecting an item from the drop-down.

Adding a WBS to a project

Once a new project has been created, the WBS will have been automatically assigned, according to the classification used and the template it is associated with. For example, this project relates to civil litigation and so has been assigned the civil litigation WBS template:
