The Sync tab contains timecode and synchronisation controls for the media player

Inter-Layer Sync

The layer sync system controls how a media player receives timecode and sends sync packets including time and sync state.

For a more detailed discussion of time and timecode in Hippotizer please see here.

Sync In

Sets the source of time or timecode for the media player.

  • Internal uses the media player’s built-in clock. Each player has it’s own clock so two media players started at the same instant will naturally drift over time.
  • Sync Bus 1-16 sets the media player to use the sync state of the bus number selected. Two layers connected by sync bus are said to be in frame-lock and can be expected to be playing the same frame at the same time.
  • Timecode 1 or 2 sets the media player to use time from the designated Timecode bus. Timecode buses are generated in the Sync Manager and can either be from an external source or generated locally. A media player under timecode control is said to be in frame-lock and can be expected to be playing the same frame at the same time

Sync Out:

The media player can also send time and sync state for other media players to use — this is called Sync Out.

There are 16 channels, or busses, to carry the information.

  • None No information is sent
  • Sync Bus 1-16 sets the media player send to the selected bus. Each bus should have only one sender, but it can contain multiple receivers.

Time Only

Sets the media player to ignore the sync state if it is listening to a Sync Bus.

  • Disabled The default. The media player will use time and sync state if listening to a sync bus.
  • Enable The media player will use only time when listening to a sync bus.

Media Offset

When the media player is listening to a sync bus as a source and time only is disabled, the Media Offset provides an offset of clip selection. That is, if the source clip was Bank 2, Clip 2 and an offset of Bank = 1, Clip = 100, then the local media player will select Bank 3, Clip 102.

The offset is applicable to the target or slave media player; set the desired offset on media players receiving sync.
