The folder that Media Manager uses to store and retrieve media is called the STRATA path.
By Default on a production Hippotizer (except Portamus) the media is stored on D:\MediaV4
On Play and Portamus the media is stored on C:\ProgramData\GreenHippo\MediaV4
This path can be changed to a new drive or folder as required.
| Note: Hippotizer’s performance is heavily dependant on the read speed and latency of the media drive. For best results use the removable drive bay and Sata 6G SSDs to hold media. Never use USB Drives, network locations or conventional hard drives. Where possible on Boreal and Taiga copy media to the D: Drive for playback. |
Multiple STRATA Locations
The STRATA folder can be used to seperate your content into a new directory of the same hard drive. In the advanced tab of media manager select ‘Add Folder’ and ‘Make New Folder’ to create a new STRATA location. Media can not be transferred between these folders directly unless you synchronise media from another Hippotizer. Using this method new media clips can be seperated from the stock library retaining the integrity of the default media STRATA folder.
Recommended drives to use for STRATA
Given the fast changing nature of computer hardware it is impossible to maintain an up to date list of recommended STRATA drives. Green Hippo has extensive experience with some makes and product lines however that we have found to be reliable:
- Samsung Pro series. (850 and 860 have been tested)
- Crucial MX 500 Series
When choosing the drive we recommend targeting the fastest possible sequential read speeds. (500MB/s is common for SATA drives). The read-centric nature of media drives means that other measures such as IOPS or drive writes per day (DWPD) are not as important.
