Risk

What is Risk?

SLSQ defines a risk as the possibility that an event, action or inaction will occur and impact SLSQ’s ability to achieve its objectives. Simply put, risk represents what could go wrong, what needs to go right, and the potential loss or lost opportunity associated with making or not making decisions in line with our vision of Zero preventable deaths in Queensland public waters and our values, Leadership, Safety, Respect, Community, Trust & Teamwork.

How do we identify risks?

A program of interviews, workshops and meetings with operational teams are used to identify and assess risks across SLSQ at both an operational and strategic level. The risk assessments are reviewed, revised and embedded in the business planning process.

The aim of these interviews, workshops and meetings is to identify any material risks which may impact SLSQ’s ability to deliver on our Vision and Values and our team objectives and to confirm these risks are being effectively managed.

In addition to the risk assessments facilitated by the Risk Team, operational teams identify and manage risks within their processes every day and have their own policies, procedures, and governance structures to support effective risk balanced decision making.

The reason why risk management is important.

SLSA Guidelines For Safer Surf Clubs is a great resource for WHS, Management and Club Safety Inspections and identifying and mitigating types of risks.
