SLSQ will lodge compensable injuries to Workcover QLD. Members need to notify SLSQ should they want to proceed with a claim. If a member wishes to proceed with a claim, who’s incident has not already been lodged with Workcover QLD, please contact SLSQ ensuring to provide details of the incident and any relating documents.

Clubs and Branches are not permitted to remove the Leave/Restricted category of members once entered by SLSQ.

The claim process is as follows:

  1. SLSQ will lodge incident with Workcover Queensland
  2. Correspondence to advise claim is lodged is sent from SLSQ to the Member, Members Club and Branch
  3. Member to provide Work Capacity Medical Certificate and relevant documents. Club to provide supporting documentation of approved activity at the time of the incident.
  4. Claim is assessed by Workcover QLD and SLSQ.
  5. SLSQ will send correspondence to the Member, Members Club and Branch of the decision.
  6. Once a claim is approved SLSQ will change the Member’s Membership Category to Leave/Restricted on Surfguard.
  7. SLSQ liaise with members and Workcover QLD during the claim process.
  8. While reviewed during the claim there may be opportunity for Suitable Duties Plan. If the treating doctor or medical professional indicates appropriate duties the member can participate in on the SLSQ Return to Surf Life Saving Duties Form. SLSQ will write a Suitable Duties Plan to be agreed to between the Member, the Member’s Club President and SLSQ Return to Work Coordinator.
  9. To close a claim and return to ‘normal’ duties the member must provide a medical certificate with no further review or treatment and a SLSQ Return to Surf Life Saving Duties Form indicating they can participate in all applicable duties without restrictions and to close the claim.
  10. Once these documents are finalised and Workcover QLD has notified SLSQ of the claim closure, SLSQ sends a claim closure letter to Member, Members Club and Branch. SLSQ will remove the restrictions on the members Surfguard.
