SLSA, SLSQ and many other things are used within the membership space that have a lot of vital information which supports out volunteers on and off the beach.

Patrol Service Contracts

Patrol Service Contracts are strategic agreements that are designed to enable clubs to effectively plan and the most suitable patrol services for their specific areas. These contracts take into consideration several important factors to ensure the safety and well-being of beachgoers.

Key conditions considered in developing these contracts include:

History of incidents The past incidents and rescue data are analysed to understand the frequency and nature of emergencies in the area.
Beach visitation numbers The volume of visitors to the beach is a crucial factor in determining the appropriate level of patrol services. High visitation rates may necessitate increased surveillance and patrol coverage
Weather and climate conditions The local weather patterns and climate conditions play a significant role in determining the patrol services.
Surf conditions The nature of surf conditions, including the presence of high surf or dangerous currents, influences the patrol services needed. This ensures that trained personnel are available to respond to any water-related emergencies.
Existing hazards Specific hazards such as marine stingers, submerged rocks, or other potential dangers are considered when planning patrol services. This ensures that appropriate measures are in place to mitigate risks and safeguard beach users.
Local government/council requirements Compliance with the regulations and requirements set by local government or council authorities is essential. Patrol Service Contracts incorporate any specific mandates or guidelines issued by the relevant governing bodies.

Patrol Gap Calculator

The Patrol Gap Calculator is a valuable tool that serves as both a lifesaving and educational resource for clubs. Its primary function is to provide clubs with crucial information regarding the expiration dates of members’ qualifications within the club. By using this tool, clubs can proactively manage and address any potential gaps in their patrol coverage due to expiring qualifications.

The calculator considers the qualifications held by each member and calculates the duration remaining until their qualifications expire. This includes certifications such as first aid, surf rescue, advanced resuscitation techniques, and other relevant qualifications specific to the club’s requirements

Provides information to clubs when each members qualifications will expire within the club.

Junior Activities Calculator

An additional tool for clubs to use is the Junior Activities Calculator. This can be used for clubs to get further details on expiry dates for a range of courses specific to Junior Activities, for example, SLSQ Child Youth Risk Management Strategies (CYRMS), SLSA Child Safe Awareness (CSA) Courses, Coaching Awards, Age Managers etc.

Junior Activities Health Check JotForm

Each season every single club is required to complete a Junior Activities Health Check. The SLSQ Regional staff will assist with ensuring all steps are taken and will complete visits to necessary clubs towards the second half of the season. These will be done by the SLSQ EMCC or MDC. The Jot Form is required to be completed by each club’s Junior Activities Coordinator.

IRB Competition Training Logs

The Daily Training Log and a Water Based Pre-Training Risk Assessment must be completed prior to every session. Club’s may utilise the paper version of Water Based Pre-Training Risk Assessment form or the Surf Risk Rating feature of the SLS Operations App. The risk assessment must be attached with the Daily Training Log for each session.

These documents must be returned to Surf Life Saving Queensland by the end of every month. Please send all paperwork for that month together. The forms will be collated and filed in the event of any injuries sustained during training and/or competition.

MSQ Reports for Injuries during IRB Training

In addition to completing an Incident Report for any injury that occurs, clubs should the regular Marine Incident Reporting procedure in certain situations. This applies when specific events or incidents take place, which may include:
Boating Accidents: If there is a boating accident involving any club-owned or operated vessels, it is essential to follow the Marine Incident Reporting procedure. This includes incidents such as collisions, capsizing, grounding, or any other significant boating-related incidents.

Watercraft Collisions: In the case of collisions involving watercraft, whether they are club-owned or privately owned, the Marine Incident Reporting procedure must be followed. This applies to incidents occurring in open water, nearshore, or on the beach.

In-water Incidents: If an incident occurs in the water, such as a near-drowning, rescue operation, or any event involving a person requiring assistance or medical attention, it is important to complete an Incident Report and adhere to the Marine Incident Reporting procedure.

Environmental Accidents: If any environmental accidents or incidents take place, such as spills, pollution, or damage to marine habitats, it is crucial to follow the Marine Incident Reporting procedure. This helps to ensure that proper measures are taken to mitigate the impact and address any necessary clean-up or restoration efforts.

Submission of Incident Paperwork

  • Marine Incident Form: Must be completed and submitted to the local MSQ Office as per the requirements of the SLSQ Patrol Operations Manual – Section 14
  • LIMSOC Incident Report Form: SLSQ is required to log compensable member injuries with Workcover QLD. As such member injuries are to be logged via the State Operations Communication Centre (SOCC), immediately when they occur. This is done via LIMSOC. Please contact the SOCC on 5631 7400 to report the injury and complete the incident report. Please refer to SLSQ Procedure GOV10 – Member Injury Reporting for more information.
