Statement of Commitment to Child Safety
A Statement of Commitment is a formal declaration by an organisation or individual affirming their dedication to upholding child safety and wellbeing as core values embedded in all operations, leadership, and culture.
Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all members, with particular emphasis on the protection of children and young people.
SLSQ is guided by and complies with the Child Safe Organisations Act 2024, as well as the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 and Regulation 2001. These legislative frameworks underpin our approach to child safety, including our duty to implement the Child Safe Standards and uphold the Universal Principle for Cultural Safety.
This Statement of Commitment should reflect your Club’s values and its responsibility to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children and young people. As part of your club’s risk management strategy, it must demonstrate a clear and proactive commitment to:
- Embedding child safety into governance, leadership, and everyday practices
- Promoting the rights and voices of children
- Ensuring that all staff, volunteers, and members are safe, suitable, and supported
- Responding appropriately to complaints or concerns
- Creating environments—physical and online—that are inclusive, culturally safe, and free from harm
By endorsing this Statement of Commitment, your Club affirms its role in building and maintaining a child-safe organisation, in line with legislative obligations.
