In the Map Legend, CHOOSE the Layer and CLICK on the Label associated with that layer to view/edit the attributes. The Label Style Module will open.

To Display a Label on a Layer

User MAY BE in edit mode OR NOT to edit the Label Style Module
CLICK on the desired layer
SELECT the label on that layer
CHECK the Labels Visible box

The Label Style Module has five tabs

  • Expression Choose which field is displayed.
  • Font Customize the fonts and outline of the label
  • Frame Customize frame type and outline options
  • Position Position of the label in the polygons
  • Visibility Allows users to choose when labels appear on map based on zoom scale

The Preview Box may or may not let you preview, depending on the Windows version on your computer.

EXPRESSION

Expressions are the commands you want for the label field.
[account] —account number will show
+ — means user wants to add another field or command
New line — will move to the next line along with any command on that new line

One Expression
SELECT which label to use by DOUBLE-CLICKING a Label under the Fields section.
Users can change the font size and visibility by adjusting the transparency.

Account number label example.

Two Expressions
SELECT which label to use by DOUBLE-CLICKING desired label in Fields section
CLICK the plus sign
CLICK New Line
SELECT which label to use by DOUBLE-CLICKING desired label in Fields section
Users can change the font size and the transparency.

Account and Owners Name (on new line) example.

FONT

The Font tab allows user to change font appearance.

FRAME

The Frame Tab allows user to change the frame around the label, the fill color and line style.

POSITION

The Position Tab allows the user to change the position of the label within the field.

  • The blue diamond represents the center.
  • The red rectangle represents the label.
  • A negative number will make the label go up.
  • A positive number will make the label go down.

Remove duplicates will removed repeated labels.
Avoid Collisions will keep labels from crossing each other when zoomed in.

VISIBILITY

The Visibility Tab allows the user to adjust the visibility based on zoom scale.

If Use Dynamic Visibility is checked, adjusts when labels appear and disappears.

Saving Label Changes
When done changing the expression, font, frame, position, and visibility…
CLICK Apply

The Label Generation box will open.
CHOOSE one
CLICK OK

SAVE your map state
