INTENT

The intent of the Physical Health and Safety Indicator is to facilitate work environments that proactively support the physical health and safety of employees.

METRICS

Level 1

  1. Organization has a written policy that includes supporting the physical health and safety of employees.

Level 2

  1. Organization has a written policy that includes supporting the physical health and safety of employees.
  2. Organization conducts a context-specific safety assessment and takes action to enhance physical safety of employees.
  3. Organization conducts a job-specific ergonomic assessment as part of employee onboarding and has protocols in place for employees to request ergonomic adjustments on an as-needed basis.
  4. Organization provides all ergonomically appropriate equipment necessary for the employee to fulfill their role.
  5. Organization has completed Steps 1 and 2 of the CDC Workplace Health Model.

Level 3

  1. Organization has a written policy that includes supporting the physical health and safety of employees.
  2. Organization conducts a context-specific safety assessment and takes action to enhance physical safety of employees.
  3. Organization conducts a job-specific ergonomic assessment as part of employee onboarding and has protocols in place for employees to request ergonomic adjustments on an as-needed basis.
  4. Organization provides all ergonomically appropriate equipment necessary for the employee to fulfill their role.
  5. Organization facilitates opportunities for physical wellness.
  6. Organization has completed Steps 1–3 of the CDC Workplace Health Model.

Level 4

  1. Organization has a written policy that includes supporting the physical health and safety of employees.
  2. Organization conducts a context-specific safety assessment and takes action to enhance physical safety of employees.
  3. Organization conducts a job-specific ergonomic assessment as part of employee onboarding and has protocols in place for employees to request ergonomic adjustments on an as-needed basis.
  4. Organization provides all ergonomically appropriate equipment necessary for the employee to fulfill their role.
  5. Organization facilitates opportunities for physical wellness.
  6. Organization has completed Steps 1–4 of the CDC Workplace Health Model and has a strategy for continual improvement based on evaluation findings.

ALTERNATIVE COMPLIANCE PATH – WELL Building Certification

Level 2

  1. Organization has a written policy that includes supporting the physical health and safety of employees.
  2. Organization conducts a context-specific safety assessment and takes action to enhance physical safety of employees.
  3. Organization has achieved WELL Building Certification at the Silver Level.

Level 3

  1. Organization has a written policy that includes supporting the physical health and safety of employees.
  2. Organization conducts a context-specific safety assessment and takes action to enhance physical safety of employees.
  3. Organization has achieved WELL Building Certification at the Gold Level.

Level 4

  1. Organization has a written policy that includes supporting the physical health and safety of employees.
  2. Organization conducts a context-specific safety assessment and takes action to enhance physical safety of employees.
  3. Organization has achieved WELL Building Certification at the Platinum Level.

ALTERNATIVE COMPLIANCE PATH – Fitwel Certification

Level 2

  2. Organization conducts a context-specific safety assessment and takes action to enhance physical safety of employees.

* Organizations that have achieved Fitwel Certification under v3 can forgo these metrics.
