INTENT

The intent of the Belonging Indicator is to create and maintain an inclusive work environment that is welcoming, safe, and supportive for all employees.

METRICS

Level 1

  1. Organization has a written policy that includes commitment to the creation and maintenance of an inclusive work environment and culture of belonging.

Level 2

  1. Organization has a written policy that includes commitment to the creation and maintenance of an inclusive work environment and culture of belonging.
  2. Organization has protocols in place to identify ongoing employee needs and concerns with regard to inclusion and belonging and takes action to address them.
  3. Organization has protocols in place for employees to confidentially report microaggressions and other discriminatory behaviors arising from unconscious bias, as well as for learning and accountability that address both the behavior and the root cause.
  4. Organization reports an average score of at least 3 on the Belonging Survey.

Level 3

  1. Organization has a written policy that includes commitment to the creation and maintenance of an inclusive work environment and culture of belonging.
  2. Organization has protocols in place to identify ongoing employee needs and concerns with regard to inclusion and belonging and takes action to address them.
  3. Organization has protocols in place for employees to confidentially report microaggressions and other discriminatory behaviors arising from unconscious bias, as well as for learning and accountability that address both the behavior and the root cause.
  4. Organization reports an average score of at least 3.5 on the Belonging Survey.

Level 4

  1. Organization has a written policy that includes commitment to the creation and maintenance of an inclusive work environment and culture of belonging.
  2. Organization has protocols in place to identify ongoing employee needs and concerns with regard to inclusion and belonging and takes action to address them.
  3. Organization has protocols in place for employees to confidentially report microaggressions and other discriminatory behaviors arising from unconscious bias, as well as for learning and accountability that address both the behavior and the root cause.
  4. Organization reports an average score of at least 4 on the Belonging Survey.
  5. Organization has voluntary employee support groups, such as employee resource groups (ERGs) and affinity groups, available to all workforce members and has protocols in place to assess effectiveness.

ALTERNATIVE COMPLIANCE PATH – Small Organizations (Two to 10 Employees)

Level 2

  1. Organization has a written policy that includes commitment to the creation and maintenance of an inclusive work environment and culture of belonging.
  2. Organization has protocols in place to identify ongoing employee needs and concerns with regard to inclusion and belonging and takes action to address them.
  3. Organization has protocols in place for employees to confidentially report microaggressions and other discriminatory behaviors arising from unconscious bias, as well as for learning and accountability that address both the behavior and the root cause.
  4. Organization has administered the Belonging Survey.
