Matter Numbering Enhancement

Introduction

The maximum size of a project/matter number is 20 characters. When the client based project/matter numbering feature is enabled, the following values need to be allowed for in that code:

• Client account number
• Matter/Project number
• 1 or more sub-project/matter numbers
• characters between each component (eg “-” or “.”)

This means that it is quite easy to inadvertently break the 20 character limit. It requires careful consideration of the length of both client and project/matter numbers to avoid it. Therefore, this enhancement will display a warning message when client/matter/project numbering is turned on explaining the impact.

“When client based numbering is used, the project/matter number is made up of a combination of client, project/matter and sub-project numbers. Please be ensure, when specifying the number format, that the 20 character project number limit is not exceeded”
