Installation Steps

SMART Migration can be installed on a Windows computer.

  1. Check the System requirements
  2. If you do not have SQL Server 2022 installed on the machine and plan to use the default SQL Server that can be installed automatically, please uninstall any version of the Microsoft OLEDB driver (version 18.x and 19.x)
  3. Run the installer, read and accept the terms in the License Agreement. (You must be local administrator to install.)
  4. Wait a few moments for the installation process to complete.
  5. If you want, SMART Migration can launch once installation has completed.
  6. Sometimes you need to reboot the computer.

Manuel installation of SQL Server repository

You may skip the installation of a local SQL Server and manually create the database on any SQL Server in your network.

You can install 2 types of repositories by using restore of a SQL Server database backup file

SQL Server backup file Description Logical names
Includes all the setup for remote job execution from Microsoft Teams
  • MDF=SMARTMigration
  • LDF=SMARTMigration_Log
Empty with no predefined setup
  • MDF=Standard
  • LDF=Standard_Log

License key installation scope

The below information is subject to change without notice at any time and is only valid from version 5.0 and above of SMART Migration

  • One license key can be installed installed on 1 computer.
  • If no valid subscription associated with the license key then the system is in "License Read-Only" mode.
Step actions you CAN perform in “License Read-Only” mode
  • Run Steps that are configured for Offload or Restore
  • Run Jobs defined by SMART Storage Saver
  • Retrieve data from any data source (for viewing only)
Step actions you CANNOT perform in “License Read-Only” mode
  • Run Steps that are NOT configured for Offload or Restore
Offload/Restore limitations
  • You can ALWAYS restore offloaded content regardless of license. In othert words: There is NO LICENSE LIMITATION associated with Restore of offloaded content
  • You can Offload content according to the volume you have licensed for Offload
  • SMART Storage Saver can be licensed with or without SMART Migration
