The Sample Letter to the Owner Regarding Lack of Design Coordination follows through on the ideas of Section 3.7.2 in the face of having discovered an error or conflict in the contract documents and having been accused of failing to “coordinate.” Specifically, it:

1. Describes the conflict in as concise terms as possible.
2. Indicates directly how each side of the conflict was interpreted, and that it was reasonable to so interpret.
3. Clarifies that it is the GC’s responsibility to coordinate the work—not to coordinate the design. 3.9.4 Sample Letter to Owner Regarding Lack of Design Coordination

4. Confirms that you did coordinate; that’s what disclosed the designer’s failure to coordinate the design.
5. Points out that the design flaws are not your problem and that you’re entitled to a change order to cover the extra cost.
