The recurring theme throughout the Manual is that the success of the production effort is the success of the company. To accommodate that reality, all other company operations exist to support production efforts. The individual line-and-staff operations themselves are treated exhaustively throughout the Manual. Here, it is sufficient to emphasize that all processes are equally important, and that none exist for their own sakes.
The prevailing attitude throughout the company should be one that encourages—even rewards—early warning of potential problems and conflicts. There’s no better guarantee that small problems will become large ones if they are not dealt with early, or when staff members fear a “kill the messenger” disposition or penalty in any form for bringing bad news to the attention of superiors.
With the complexities, pressures, and problems that are thrown in our faces each day, we must all constantly remind ourselves that we’re all on the same side and that the clock never stops. The concept of a complete team approach must be taken as seriously as it deserves to be. Those who ignore that concept will plateau quickly, and their careers will soon follow.
