Again, whether required by contract or not, the construction of a sample panel to document minimum quality standards and mock-ups to incorporate multiple trade work can prove invaluable. The issues of constructability and tolerances can be acknowledged or debated prior to the actual start of work. Each participant’s input will confirm that the design is proper or that certain changes need to be made and approved by the design consultant in order to achieve the desired results.
These efforts taken before production begins can not only provide for a smooth flow of work, but, again, increase or at least maintain expected quality levels. Whenever these preconstruction conferences take place or panel mock-ups are prepared, the event should be memorialized to document everyone’s comments, responsibilities, and agreement on the issues presented.
