Total Quality Management (TQM) encompasses not only the field operations and the actual construction cycle, but also includes all aspects of the company’s operations, for example, quality of the estimating process, quality of the Accounting Department operations—that monthly requisitions are sent to the owner on time, that they have the correct figures and all required documentation. The quality of the close-out process is also of importance. All Operation & Maintenance manuals and warranties must be assembled promptly. Punchlist is to be completed and signed off, and lien waivers obtained from subcontractors quickly. This movement focusing on Total Quality Management has spawned a number of quality-oriented processes.
