19.3.1 MWD Tool Types

Most modern MWD tools are very similar and comprise six sensors – three orthogonal accelerometers to measurethe inclination and toolface of the tool relative to the Earth’s gravity vector and three orthogonal magnetometers to measure the azimuth of the tool.
