Note 2: The turning flags are to be set by the Referee or their delegate considering water conditions at the time of a race e.g., the turning flags should be set back up to about 5 metres from the water’s edge in the event of a steep drop off into the water and/or a heavy shore dump for safety, fairness, and practicality. However, on a flat beach and/or little wave surge, the turning flags may be placed at the water’s edge or in the water to minimise the run distance. The swim and board start and changeover line may be placed on the beach or in the water depending on conditions and the placement of the turning flags.
