(a) A standard judging panel shall consist of three judges.
(b) The preferred judging method to is to use a Computer Scoring System (e.g. LiveHeats).
(c) When using a Computer Scoring System Computer all judges’ scores are totalled then divided by the number of judges to give an average score out of ten rounded to two decimal places. At the end of the heat a surfer’s best 2 waves are totalled for their end tally. The surfer with the highest tallied score is the winner. The computer scoring system may round up or down to two decimal places in determining individual wave score averages or tied score averages. These score averages are not subject to protest or appeal.
(d) Should a manual judging method be used Judges and Master Cards will be necessary and wave tabulation shall differ to the (preferred) Computer Scoring System. To decide a winner the best 2 waves will be counted on each judge’s sheet. The placings are then transposed onto a master sheet along with all the judges’ allocated placings. The highest and lowest placing for each surfer is crossed off on the Master Card and the remaining places added to obtain the results (when using 3 judges all placings are added). The lowest total is first, next lowest second, next lowest third, etc. If manual judging is used this methodology is not subject to protest or appeal.
Note: Competitors or team managers may check the score cards after the results have been formalised by the nominated official.
