(a) A typical Ocean Swim course shall be as detailed in the diagram.

(b) Dependent on beach and ocean conditions, and safety, the race start and finish lines can be switched around, and the distance to be swum to sea, the distance between buoys, and the direction the course to be swum, may be varied. Alternate courses may also be set to accommodate race distances and point to swims.

Note: The standard swim distance for the Australian Championship Ocean Swim is approximately 2kms.

(c) Details of event courses, distances, and any special conditions for Ocean Swims are to be contained in event entry and other circulars (as detailed in Section 12 of the SSM).

(d) Large, brightly coloured buoys are to be used as turning buoys. Small, guide buoys (of an alternate colour) may be placed between the turning buoys on the long straights of the course.
