This Imperative may be attempted using the Scale Jumping overlay. The Scale Jump must occur within the same community of the LBC project. Following are some examples of acceptable strategies. This is not an exhaustive list. Project teams may submit other ideas through a Request for Ruling for preapproval.

Acceptable Strategies – Urban Agriculture

Some examples might include partnering with:

  • An existing community garden to add additional area (see figure 2-3).
  • A neighbor to set up a beehive or chicken coop in their backyard.
  • A nearby school to create a school garden, in ground or on a rooftop.
  • A nearby park to plant fruit trees and create a harvest plan.

Acceptable Strategies – Weekly Community Access

  • Contributing funds to eliminate the need for a fee for access to a plot in a community garden.
  • Collaborating with a local tilth organization or individual grower to bring volunteers to their operations.
  • Coordinating delivery of locally grown food to a food bank or serving kitchen.

Prohibited Strategies

Offsite areas that are owned by the project, as well as existing off-site agriculture, cannot be counted. Scale Jumping must provide additionality. For example, a project cannot sponsor an existing space in a community garden, but rather must work with a partner to create new agricultural area within the community.

OTHER IMPERATIVES

When Scale Jumping is implemented, all new components installed for the creation of additional urban agriculture or weekly food access associated with the LBC project must meet the requirements of all other Imperatives being pursued on the project.

PROJECT AREA

The area used for Scale Jumping is not typically included in the Project Area or FAR. If a project jumps to an area within its own property that is not shared with other projects, it is not Scale Jumping, and the additional land needs to be included in the Project Area whether or not it is contiguous. Additionally, offsite areas that are owned by the project are not considered part of Scale Jumping and must be included within the Project Area.
