I07 – Energy + Carbon Reduction

ENERGY BASELINE

  • Baselining Tools
    • National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS). Building Renovation and Interior office projects in Oceania may use the National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) to establish project-specific energy baselines and energy targets. See Documentation Requirements for additional required documentation.

EMBODIED CARBON REDUCTION

  • Approved Baseline Tools
    • Due to a lack of regional data in EC3, projects in Oceania may use baseline data provided in any of the Approved LCA Tools listed in Table 7-1 in lieu of EC3 to provide a more accurate basis for calculating Embodied Carbon Reduction.

I09 – Healthy Interior Environment

ASHRAE 62
For purposes of compliance with Imperative 09 – Healthy Interior Environment, Australian Standard (AS) 1668.2, plus the requirements of ASHRAE 62.1 listed below, is considered equivalent to the current version of ASHRAE 62.1:

  • 5.1.3: Documentation (re: ventilation rates, air distribution, air balance testing, and standards for measuring and balancing),
  • 5.5.2 & 5.5.3: Rain Entrainment & Rain Intrusion,
  • 5.5.5: Bird Screens,
  • 5.10: Drain Pans

HEALTHY INTERIOR ENVIRONMENT PLAN (HIEP)

  • Australia Building Codes Board ABCB. When considering the need for a vestibule as part of the HIEP, project teams in Australia may cite the comparison in Figure 2 of “International Comparison of Building Energy Performance Standards”, Horne et al, 2005, to define climate zones comparable to ASHRAE zones 1-4.

I12 – Responsible Materials

SOURCING DISTANCE

  • 2,000 km. For purposes of the sourcing distance requirement, the sourcing zone of 500 km is extended to 2,000 kilometers for projects in Oceania.

RESPONSIBLE SOURCING EXCEPTIONS

  • MT-002 Invasive Species
    • Designation on the lists cited below, where the designation clearly applies to the location from which the wood is sourced, qualifies as an official statement that the species is considered invasive.
      • Australia:
        • Wood sources identified as Weeds of National Significance (WoNS) and National Environmental Alert List
        • https://weeds.org.au/overview/lists-strategies/
      • New Zealand:
        • https://www.tiakitamakimakaurau.nz/protect-and-restore-our-environment/pests-in-auckland/pest-search/ (Auckland)

I14 – Responsible Sourcing

INDUSTRY ADVOCACY

  • Stone Industry Advocacy
    • Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA). Where a product was sourced from a region in which the GECA Hard Surfacing Standard (HSv2.0i-2019 Hard Surfacing) is available, the project team may comply with the Stone Industry Advocacy requirement by advocating that suppliers attain that certification rather than ANSI/NSC 373 Sustainable Production of Natural Dimension Stone, if they also advocate to GECA to add chain of custody requirements that are comparable to the chain of custody requirements within the NSC standard.

I15 – Living Economy Sourcing

SOURCING DISTANCE

  • Projects in Oceania may use the sourcing distances and percentages listed below for purposes of compliance with the sourcing distance requirements of this imperative. Teams should make every effort to source locally and advocate for more local production in their region, but Due Diligence documentation is not required to use these expanded zone distances.
    • 20% or more of the materials construction budget must come from within 2,000 kilometers.
    • An additional 30% of the materials construction budget must come from within 5,000 kilometers.
    • An additional 25% of the materials construction budget must come from within 9,000 kilometers; this distance is extended to 11,000 kilometers for projects in New Zealand, only.
    • 25% of materials may be sourced from any location.

I18 – Inclusion

MINORITY, WOMEN, OR DISADVANTAGED BUSINESS ENTERPRISES

  • Certification by Amotai is considered registration as a Minority Women or Disadvantaged Business Enterprise for purposes of I18 – Inclusion.
