FSC MIX PERCENTAGE CALCULATION

Use the following steps to calculate the value of wood for a product made with FSC Mix wood with an assigned FSC Mix Percentage Claim.

Example using Product 3 from the FSC Wood Calculation Example table below.

Step 1 – Determine total product cost.

  • Product 3 = $500.

Step 2 – Determine the percentage FSC assigned.

  • FSC assigned percentage of Product 3 = 70%.

Step 3 – Using the above information, calculate the value of the assigned percentage.

  • $500 * 0.70 = $350

Step 4 – The non-assigned percentage will count toward the Low Risk Wood value.

  • $500 * 0.3% = $150

FSC WOOD-CONTAINING PRODUCT CALCULATION

Follow the steps below when calculating the value of wood with a compliant FSC claim, within a wood-containing product.

Example using Product 6 from the FSC Wood Calculation Example table below.

Step 1 – Determine total product cost.

  • Product 6 total cost = $500.

Step 2 – Determine the percentage by weight of wood having an FSC-compliant claim in the product.

  • Product 6 = 30% wood with FSC-compliant claim

Step 3 – Using the above information, calculate the value of the wood component of the product.

  • $500 * 0.30 = $150

RESPONSIBLE SOURCING CALCULATION

Follow the steps below when calculating the Low Risk Wood and FSC-certified wood percentages. To comply, FSC-certified wood should be a minimum of 80% and Low Risk Wood value should not exceed 20%.

Example calculation in which:

  • Total wood cost = $2200
  • Low Risk Wood cost = $400
  • FSC-Certified wood cost = $1800

Step 1 – Determine total wood cost.

  • Total wood cost = $2200

Step 2 – Determine Low Risk Wood cost.

  • Low Risk Wood cost = $400

Step 3 – Determine FSC-certified wood cost.

  • FSC-Certified wood cost = $1800

Step 4 – Calculate the percentage of the cost contributing toward Low Risk Wood.

  • $400 / $2200 = 18.2%

Step 5 – Calculate the percentage of the cost contributing toward FSC-certified wood.

  • $1800 / $2200 = 81.8%

Step 6 – Confirm that FSC-certified wood consists of a minimum of 80% of the cost and Low Risk Wood does not exceed 20% of the cost.

  • Low Risk Wood: 18.2% < 20%.
  • FSC Wood: 81.8% > 80%.

Wood numbers are in compliance in this example.

DECLARE AND SALVAGED CALCULATION

The 4.0 Materials Tracking Table is set up to calculate the minimum number of Declare and salvaged products required for project and will also track the number of installed Declare and Salvaged products and the amount of Declare advocacy sent.
