Blizzard

  • Avoid driving and wait until the storm ends before leaving, ask your supervisor if you can fulfill practicum hours at home by working on a project.
  • If you have to drive, check Alberta 511 for current road conditions.
  • If you are driving let someone know where you are going and when you expect to arrive at the destination.
  • Avoid going outdoors

Heavy Rain

  • Try to stay indoors
  • Avoid roadway underpasses, drainage ditches, and water collection areas because they can flood.
  • Stay away from power lines and electrical wires.
  • If you are driving, drive with caution and reduce your speed.

Severe Lightning

  • Seek shelter
  • Stay away from all electrical cords, and avoid doors, windows, fireplaces, sinks, tubs, and shower.
  • If you are caught outside, do not stand near tall objects or anything made of metal, and avoid open water.
  • Take shelter in a low-lying area.

Hail Storm

  • Take cover when hail begins to fall.
  • Stay away from windows, glass doors, and skylights, which may shatter.
  • If your outside when hail falls crouch down with your face away from the wind and protect your head and neck with your hands.
