Practicum II and III involve ongoing evaluation of specific competencies outlined in the Intern Placement Tracking system evaluation, which supervisors will be given access to. Students will spend the full year (Practicum II and III) in the same placement, building on their skills and knowledge in a progressive manner while being supported by a program supervisor and a seminar instructor.

Practicum II: CYCC 2241 – Fall Semester – second year September – December
Total Hours: Students will have to complete 16 hours/week for practicum. Lunch breaks are included in students’ hours, but must be based on what is considered a normal lunch break for the agency. Students are allotted 16 hours per week in their course schedule for their practicum hours. However, students may flex their practicum time outside of the scheduled days if the agency requires or needed to maintain supervision (e.g., evenings and weekends).

Students begin a practicum in a residential, school, or community agency to learn the specific skills required to work with vulnerable children, youth, and families. They will have the opportunity to integrate developmental theories and practice through seminars, supervised practice, and campus activities. Students attend a two hour weekly seminar outside of their practicum days.

Students are allowed to miss two days due to illness without having to make up their hours. Students are encouraged to take part in training opportunities offered by their agency during their assigned practicum days, but can only miss one practicum seminar due to a training opportunity.

Prerequisite(s): CYCC 1142 with a minimum grade of C.
