Only under exceptional circumstances will the placement be changed during the term.
The following protocol will be followed:
- If the student is requesting a change of placement, they will do so in writing, within the first 30 days of the commencement of practicum to the Field Director and Practicum Coordinator. They will state the reasons for the request, after having a discussion with the Site Supervisor and the Faculty Supervisor. If the student’s request for change of placement is approved, the Practicum Coordinator will suggest alternatives for a new placement. In some circumstance, the student may be responsible to seek out their own practicum site, with Field Director approval.
- A Site Supervisor requesting a change of placement for the student will document specific expectations and concerns. These will be discussed with the student. The Site Supervisor will present the rationale to the Faculty Supervisor for consideration. If the concerns cannot be resolved, the Faculty Supervisor will inform the Practicum Coordinator and Field Director of the request. Meetings will be arranged to discuss concerns and possible solutions. If the situation cannot be resolved in a timely manner, the practicum will be terminated. The student will be responsible for finding a new placement with Field Director approval or withdraw from the practicum course.
