Child Studies professionals require the integration of skills, knowledge, attitudes, and values in order to promote the well-being of families, communities, vulnerable people, and individuals. The student is accountable to demonstrate professional competencies that are consistent with discipline-specific and provincial codes of ethics and standards of practice.
Accountability is also established through MRU Policies and Procedures.
Areas of focus include:
- Effective communication skills
- Social consciousness
- Practice suitability
- Personal suitability
- Ethical suitability
Student suitability refers to both readiness for the practicum as well as continuance in the placement. This will give the student the opportunity to learn both personal and professional demands placed on child and youth care workers in practice.
