Before a student begins their practicum experience, it is mandatory for them to obtain clearance in two domains. If these documents are not completed before the first week of classes, students may be asked to refrain from beginning practicum until documents are received by the Practicum Site. The Practicum Site is responsible to request these checks from the student if required for their practicum placement. MRU provides the students with the process to retrieve these checks.

Please be advised *Police Information Check for Bachelor of Child Studies Practicums and Capstone
Prior to beginning their practicum, students will be required, at their own expense, to obtain a Police Information Check.

It is the decision of each practicum agency to accept or reject a student for placement or observation based on the results of the Police Information Check or any other background checks. As completion of course requirements and potential future employment in the field may be contingent upon the outcome of these checks, students with concerns are encouraged to discuss them with the Practicum Field Director or Practicum Coordinator

Police Information Check (PIC):

All Students require a current (less than six months old) Police Information Check (PIC), prior to starting unpaid practicums within the Bachelor of Child Studies.

Current students can request a Discount letter, for the Calgary Police or RCMP, depending on where you live. The letter will provide a discount for the cost of the PIC application.

Please review the Calgary Police Services website for instructions, identification and approved locations. You must have lived in Calgary at least six months to complete this check through Calgary Police Services or they will ask you to get it done with law enforcement from your previous residence.

The PIC will include Canada-wide Criminal Record History, Vulnerable Sector Search and Police History, including Local Police Information and Alberta Provincial Court Records, produced on a Calgary Police Service certificate letter. A Calgary residence consisting of minimally six months is required to apply.
