Occasionally students will experience conflict or concerns during their practicum.
Areas of concern could relate to:
- Clarity of expectations
- Relationship concerns
- Performance issues
- Other learning-related situations
Conflict resolution is an important skill. There is support from the faculty available to enhance and support these skills; however, it is the student’s responsibility to contact MRU staff/faculty for support.
As a way to address concerns in a consistent manner, MRU expects students to follow the following process:
- Openly discuss concerns at the practicum agency level with the Site Supervisor as soon as possible. Document concerns, discussion, and related resolution
- Openly discuss concerns with the Faculty Supervisor during a meeting to review the situation. Be prepared for the meeting with documentation of attempted resolution with the Site Supervisor. Options and solutions will be discussed and documented
- If the situation remains unresolved, the Faculty Supervisor and the student will set up a meeting with the Field Director
- Choosing to appeal a final grade can refer to Academic Appeals and Grievances in the Academic Regulations section of the MRU Calendar
