Covid 19

Coronavirus has impacted how students will be interacting with individuals within their practicum placements to ensure the health and safety of the community.
COVID-19 is a transmittable disease that can be spread through close contact of other individuals that carry the virus (Alberta Health Services, 2021). Students in In person practicums may come in close contact with other individuals. To ensure the safety and health of students, children, youth, workers and the community students
will need to follow the guidelines provided by Alberta Health Services.

Symptoms
Alberta Health Services (2020) instructs anyone with the symptoms listed below is
legally required to isolate and should be tested for COVID-19:

  • fever
  • runny nose
  • sore throat
  • coughing or worsening chronic cough
  • shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

How to protect yourself and others

Alberta health services (2020) provides the following guidelines to protect the spread
of COVID-19:

  • Stay 2 meters/6 feet away from others
  • Wear a mask in public places and indoor workplaces
  • Avoid crowded places
  • Limit the number of people you come into contact with
  • Avoid physical and close contact with sick individuals
  • Have items delivered to you if possible

Practice Good Hygiene

Alberta Health Services (2020) lists hygienic measures to protect yourself and others
from the COVID.

  • Stay home if you are sick or feeling unwell
  • Wash and sanitize your hands frequently
  • Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing
  • Avoid touching your face, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces

What Should You Do If You Think You Have COVID-19

If you or someone you came into contact with is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms please stay home and notify your supervisor and practicum instructor.
If you have symptoms you must isolate for 10 days from the start of symptoms.
If you have returned from travel outside of Canada you must quarantine for 14 days following your return and monitor your symptoms.
If you were in close contact with a case of COVID-19, you must quarantine for 14 days following your exposure and monitor your symptoms, even if you tested negative.
If you are in isolation or quarantine you must follow Alberta’s mandatory isolation and quarantine requirements.
Call Health Link 811 If your symptoms worsen, or you have concerns about your health or questions about COVID-19.
Call 911 if you are seriously ill and need immediate medical attention. Inform them that you may have COVID-19
