Students currently at Mount Royal University participating in an approved practicum experience, either on or off-campus, are covered by the University liability insurance. In addition, the Worker’s Compensation Board (WCB) covers the student in case of injury while participating in a recognized practicum placement.

If the student becomes an employee of the practicum site prior to fully completing their studies, the student is considered to be an employee of the site and it is assumed the employee would be covered under the liability of said agency.

If a student is required to drive during practicum hours, they are required to complete the IPT form Waiver of Liability for Driving during Practicum Hours. This does not include the initial drive to the practicum or returning home. It is up to the practicum site to decide if the student can drive agency vehicles, as they are not covered under the university insurance.
