In order for a new teacher who is in the Provisional Teacher program to qualify for a Standard certificate, one of the requirements is for two Summative ratings of Highly Effective or Effective to be received. In addition, a total of 30 weeks of Mentoring must also have been completed.

These Summative Ratings and Mentor Weeks must be entered into the new educator’s Provisional Teacher program. To do this:

  • On the NJEdCert Home page, click on the three lines on the top left corner.
  • Click on District Educators
  • Find the employee in the list and click on the employee’s first or last name (doesn’t matter which one).
  • You will see a new page. Click on the blue box Summer Ratings & Mentorship.
  • In the box that appears, click on Final Summative Rating if you are adding the summative rating or click on Mentorship Information if you are adding the Mentoring Weeks. NOTE: You can obtain the Summative Rating for each PTP teacher by emailing the Assistant Superintendent this request. The mentor weeks are provided to you each month by the mentor teacher as they complete the mentor logs in the Professional Growth program.
  • Follow the prompts for each.
  • Once completed, if the teacher has completed the requirements to obtain a standard certificate, then refer to the directions titled: Provisional Teacher Program-Conversion to Standard Process.
