The hiring of homebound instructors is handled by this desk. Most are in-district teachers but we do get out-of-district instructors as well. The homebound instructor can only teach subjects for which he/she is certified.

In-District

  • Usually the homebound coordinator from each school (usually a guidance secretary at Knolls and a guidance secretary at Hills) will notify this office of a teacher that wishes to be added to the homebound list.
  • Add the teacher to the next Personnel Agenda/Board Agenda for board approval.
  • Once approved, a board approval letter is created and mailed to the teacher.
  • The teacher’s name is added to the homebound lists .
  • The homebound lists are shared with each homebound coordinator.
  • A time entry job/pay is created on Linq ERP HRS Human Resources/Payroll by the Staff Accountant.
  • The board approval letter is scanned into Archive/Etrieve and filed in the employee’s Personnel file.

Out-of-District

Upon receipt of a request by a homebound coordinator, send an email to the homebound tutor applicant the following information: If you first receive this request by the out of district tutor, confirm with the coordinators that they want this person as a homebound tutor.

The homebound packet should include:

  • Release form
  • All Personnel form
  • Certified/Personnel form
  • I-9 form (need original proof of ID – request it be a Driver’s Lic. & SS Card as we need to see the SS card for tax reporting purposes as well)
  • Mantoux form
  • Fingerprinting/criminal history instruction sheet
  • PL 2018, c.5 form and instructions
  • Copy of all teaching certificates that the applicant holds. A homebound tutor needs to hold a valid NJ teacher certificate. (You can print this information from the NJEdCert website.)

Once the new applicant has provided these forms, then you will need to add his/her name to the next board meeting agenda for approval and create a new Personnel file for the homebound teacher (in a red file folder).

  • Upon board approval, you will need to enter this person into Linq ERP.
  • Email a board approval letter to the new applicant.
  • Email the new homebound tutor the instructions for creating an Employee Portal (EP) account (without medical) and instructions for entering and uploading the Federal/State W4s, entering the direct deposit and entering their emergency contact. Attach to the email the Federal/State W4’s for completion and uploading purposes.
  • Add the teacher’s name to the homebound lists and share these lists with the homebound coordinators.
  • A time entry job/pay is created in Linq ERP HRS Human Resources/Payroll by the Staff Accountant
  • The board approval letter is scanned into Archive and filed in the employee’s Personnel file.
