Enhancement to parent tasks restrictions in Proj Ops and FSCM

Overview of Enhancements

1. Restriction on Parent Tasks

Purpose: To prevent parent tasks from recording transactions in Project Operations and FSCM, ensuring clarity in task management and accounting.

Project Operations Enhancements

New Parameter:

  • Name: Restrict Summary Tasks
  • Location: Settings > Evergreen parameters > General tab
Functionality:
  • Enabled: If a user selects a parent task and attempts to save, an error message is displayed, preventing any further action.
  • Disabled: Parent tasks can record transactions normally.

2. Time Entries

  • Parent tasks will not appear in the dropdown for time entries.
  • They can still be accessed via advanced lookup.
  • Error Message: Triggered if a user selects a parent task and tries to save the entry.

Editing an existing entry that involves a parent task will also result in an error upon saving or submitting.

3. Material Usage and Journals

  • Parent tasks will be visible and selectable in dropdowns and advanced lookups.
  • Error Message: An error will trigger upon attempting to save if a parent task is selected.
  • This applies both when saving a new record and when editing an existing one.


FSCM Enhancements

New Parameter:

  • Name: Restrict Summary Tasks
  • Location: Project management and accounting > Setup > Project management and accounting parameters > Project Operations on Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement tab > Evergreen Operations fast tab
Functionality:
  • Enabled:
    • Parent tasks remain visible in expense reports and purchase orders.
    • An error message is displayed if a user attempts to select a parent task for these records.
  • Disabled: Parent tasks can record expenses and purchase orders without restrictions.

These enhancements provide a clearer structure in task management by preventing parent tasks from being misused in transaction recordings, thus improving the accuracy of project accounting and resource allocation.
