Purpose:
This procedure outlines the proper use, handling, and safety measures for GWN radios used by Surf Lifesaving members on watercraft. Compliance with these procedures ensures the safety of all members and the effective use of communication equipment.
1. Radio Equipment Handling:
All radios must be placed in an approved SLSQ waterproof bag before use. The approved waterproof bags are:
- PAQUA
- JETRESCUE
These bags are specifically designed to protect the radio from water damage and ensure it remains functional in wet conditions.
2. Securing Radios:
The radio, securely placed in the waterproof bag, must be fastened to the person at all times. It is the responsibility of each member to ensure that the radio is securely attached to their person using a tether, strap, or clip to prevent loss or damage. Radios must not be left unsecured on watercraft or equipment when not in use.
3. Lost or Damaged Radio Policy:
In the event of a lost or damaged radio, members must adhere to the Lost Radio Procedure.
This document (refer to Radio Communication Procedures) outlines the procedures for reporting a lost or damaged radio, and the responsibilities of the member involved. Failure to adhere to the procedure of securing radios or proper use of waterproof bags may result in disciplinary action or a requirement to reimburse the cost of the radio, as per the Lost Radio Procedure.
