Clubs may store fuel on site to support patrol, operational, and emergency response activities. Fuel storage must be managed in accordance with all relevant legislative requirements, Australian Standards, and organisational risk management practices.
The maximum quantity of fuel permitted to be stored at a surf club at any one time is 500 litres, comprising:

  • Up to 250 litres of petrol (ULP); and
  • Up to 250 litres of diesel.

These quantities are intended to support the operational requirements of surf clubs, including:

  • Patrol and operational vehicles;
  • Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) operations; and
  • Diesel-powered tractors or other approved equipment.

All fuel must be stored in approved containers and designated storage areas, with appropriate controls in place to minimise risks associated with fire, spills, environmental contamination, and unauthorised access. Clubs are responsible for ensuring fuel storage arrangements are regularly monitored and maintained in a safe and compliant condition.
