- Instructors (a minimum of two faculty/staff per group) are required to travel with the students both to and from the international/domestic destination, unless permission is granted by the Provost for a faculty member to make alternate arrangements due to extraordinarily compelling circumstances.
- Exceptions may be made when a student is sent home for official or medical reasons, or when a student decides to stay after the course for additional travel. In the latter case, the College will not assume any liability as stated in the Acknowledgement of Risk Form (refer to Required Forms in this handbook).
- Students who decide not to return with the group must notify the instructor and the OIE of their intention. The instructor will not make an effort to try to collect additional information about the student’s itinerary regarding additional travel, nor assist in any way with alternate arrangements. Sample off-campus policies can be downloaded from our BuzzNet site.
- Faculty instructors should make clear their expectations for students with regard to required and voluntary/optional elements of the course and travel component. All students participating in the Study-Travel Course must adhere to the planned itinerary and participate in the entirety of the Study-Travel Course. If a student deviates from the planned itinerary s/he is doing so on their own and without the approval of the College. Below is an excerpt from the Acknowledgement of Risk form regarding voluntary deviation, which all Study-Travel students sign in order to participate in the program. While the study-travel instructors may be able to provide students with the contact information for the group travel agent, neither the College nor the faculty instructor can assist them with extending your stays overseas. The student will also be responsible for paying any additional fees for a flight change, etc.

- A student’s participation in the Study-Travel Course sponsored by the College ends when the student decides to do something other than the rest of the group enrolled in that program. This is especially true at the conclusion of the official travel component.
