• At least one RMC faculty and another faculty or staff member must accompany every study/travel group. Contact OIE or the Provost’s Office for support to identify additional faculty or chaperones, if necessary. If a second RMC faculty or staff member is unavailable, the instructor may still lead a travel course, provided that he or she works with a licensed program provider with 24/7 on-site support. The name and contact information for this provider must be provided to the Study Travel Course Committee at the time final proposals are due.
  • Chaperones are individuals who serve as group leaders but do not provide formal instruction. Chaperones must be RMC faculty or staff members. If the instructor believes it is necessary to bring along a chaperone that is not employed by the College, he or she must obtain approval from the Provost’s Office to do so. In such cases, a short-term contract letter will be issued by the College. Student fees can cover up to two instructors or one instructor and a chaperone, unless the total number of enrolled students is determined to warrant additional chaperones. Such instances should be negotiated between the instructor, Provost’s Office, and Study Travel Course Committee.
  • The instructor and/or chaperone(s) must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of, and experience in, the country, as well as be able to identify on-site contacts. At least one instructor or chaperone must have the ability to communicate effectively in the language spoken in the destination country(ies) where English is not in common usage.
