Introduction
The Smart UI is an Excel Add-in (.xlam) whose embedded programming has the ability to build data entry forms in a fully automated way. The automation scans the worksheet for a continuous range of data, identifies the heading and data row position, creating the data entry form dynamically.
Smart UI aims to improve user experience by creating user-friendly interfaces through building data entry forms. It replaces the traditional way of visualizing data through rows and columns with a more intuitive, practical and simple to use interface.
In addition to being able to enter data quickly and accurately, the form allows users to see more content without scrolling because the data appears in a vertical format (rather than horizontal). The form can also include data validation, ensuring that an input meets certain criteria that are defined by the user.
Benefits of Excel Data Entry Forms
Data entry forms get rid of the tedious process of entering information into each cell one at a time. Here are the benefits of using a form in Excel for data entry:
- Saves time – One of the biggest complaints users have with Excel is that entering data takes seemingly forever to finish. You might need to scroll all the way back up to check if you’re in the correct field, and scroll back down to the row you were currently on. If you have multiple columns then you would have to scroll right to different columns to enter data. It’s a very tedious & time consuming process.
- Reduces errors – When handling large amounts of data with multiple fields and complex categories, mistakes may happen due to human error. Data entry forms greatly reduce the chances of that happening.
Allows for data validation – This feature on Excel ensures the accuracy of the data entered into the system by restricting where data can be filled.
- Easier to view data – By creating a form, you avoid entering/viewing data in a table that extends beyond the window, so that viewing all the data for a specific row becomes easier and does not involve endless scrolling to navigate.
