VERSION 1.0 – DECEMBER 2023

Purpose: To establish guidelines for communicating effectively with Gold Coast City Council Lifeguards to report incidents, seek assistance, or provide information.

Scope: This is relevant to all operators in the State Operations Communications Centre (SurfCom).

  1. Overview
1.1 Operators must notify Staghorn Tower of any incidents reported to the State Centre as soon as practical.
1.2 Operators must monitor the Gold Coast City Council Radio to ensure that incidents are not missed, and assistance is provided if required.
1.3 Operators must notify Staghorn Tower of any incidents that are close to their services, this allows for transparency and effective communication between both services.
  1. Conducting Phone Calls
2.1 Operators must gather all relevant information before calling Staghorn Tower.
2.2 Operators must assess if it’s an appropriate time to call the Staghorn Tower before doing so. This will depend on the incident type, radio traffic on the GCCC Radio and if the information is urgent.
2.3 Operators must remain professional, using clear and concise language and provide any requested information.
2.4 Operators must ensure they are providing the correct location for the incident to ensure a prompt response.
2.5 Operators must ensure they provide the most detailed information as possible. Including the severity or urgency of the incident.
2.6 Operators must note down each interaction with the local council in the incident log. If there is no incident and it’s an advisory only this must be noted in the patrol log.
