Purpose: To provide guidance to operators on how to effectively assess and evaluate incoming information to ensure accuracy and reliability.

Scope: This procedure applies to all operators at the State Operations Communications Centre (SurfCom).

  1. Introduction
    1.1 All operators must effectively assess and evaluate incoming information to ensure accuracy and reliability.
    1.2 The information assessment procedures will be provided by the OCS.
  1. Verification
    2.1 Operators must verify the accuracy and reliability of incoming information before sharing it with others.
    2.2 Verification may involve cross-referencing with other sources, fact-checking, or confirmation with the original source.
    2.3 Operators must document their verification process to ensure that it can be reviewed or audited if necessary.
  1. Evaluation
    3.1 Operators must evaluate the importance and urgency of the incoming information.
    3.2 The evaluation may involve prioritising the information, assigning a response level or action plan, or escalating to higher-level personnel if necessary.
    3.3 Operators must document their evaluation process to ensure that it can be reviewed or audited if necessary.
  1. Communication
    4.1 Operators must effectively communicate the incoming information and their assessment and evaluation results to other relevant personnel.
    4.2 The communication may involve a verbal report, a written report, or an electronic notification.
    4.3 Operators must use clear, concise, and accurate language to ensure that the information is understood and acted upon appropriately.
    4.4 All communication transmissions (phone and radio) must be recorded in LIMSOC.
  1. Responsibilities
    5.1 All operators are responsible for following the procedures outlined in this procedure.
    5.2 The OCS is responsible for ensuring that their operators are aware of and following the procedures outlined in this procedure.
    5.3 The OCS is responsible for providing the necessary resources and equipment to effectively assess and evaluate incoming information.
