VERSION 1.0 – DECEMBER 2023

Purpose: To provide guidance to operators and visitors on the process to be followed in the event of an emergency evacuation.

Scope: This procedure applies to all operators and visitors of the State Operations Communications Centre (SurfCom) at the time of an emergency evacuation.

  1. Emergencies Requiring Evacuation.
    1.1 Fire or significant smoke
    1.2 Building Damage
    1.3 Tsunami
    1.4 Building threat
  1. Evacuation Procedures
    2.1 Operators will raise the alarm and advise all operators of the emergency.
    2.2 An emergency Broadcast must quickly be made to all stations advising the evacuation of the Centre.
    2.3 Operators and visitors must immediately evacuate SurfCom using the nearest and safest exit.
    2.4 Operators must help visitors to evacuate the building.
    2.5 Operators and visitors must proceed to the designated assembly area, which will be located at a safe distance from SurfCom.
  1. Headcount
    3.1 Operators and visitors must report to the OCS or Senior Operator at the assembly area.
    3.2 The OCS or Senior Operator will take attendance and report any missing operators or visitors to the emergency services.
  1. Communication
    4.1 Operators must not re-enter SurfCom until they are instructed to do so by their OCS, Senior Operator or emergency services personnel.
    4.2 Emergency services personnel will provide instructions to operators and visitors regarding the status of the emergency and any further actions that must be taken.
  1. Responsibilities
    5.1 All operators and visitors are responsible for following the procedures outlined in this procedure.
    5.2 The OCS is responsible for ensuring that their operators and visitors are aware of and following the procedures outlined in this procedure.
    5.3 The OCS and Operation Support Supervisor are responsible for ensuring that the necessary resources and equipment are provided to ensure the safe and efficient evacuation of operators and visitors during an emergency.
