Purpose: To provide guidance to new operators and visitors on how to safely navigate and operate within the State Operations Communications Centre (SurfCom) building.
Scope: This procedure applies to all new operators and visitors of the State Operations Communications Centre (SurfCom).
- Introduction
1.1 All new operators and volunteers must receive a building induction prior to accessing SurfCom.
1.2 The building induction will be delivered by the OCS or Senior Operator on shift.
- Access and Security
2.1 Operators and visitors must have the appropriate access permissions to enter and exit the building.
2.2 Operators and visitors must follow the building’s security policies, which may include using codes or fobs.
- Emergency Procedures
3.1 Operators and visitors must be aware of the emergency procedures for the building.
3.2 Emergency procedures may include evacuation routes, assembly areas, and the use of fire extinguishers and other emergency equipment.
3.3 Operators and visitors must know how to respond to diverse types of emergencies, such as fires, medical emergencies, or security threats.
- Building Layout
4.1. Operators and visitors must be familiar with the layout of the building, including the location of exits, stairwells, restrooms, and break rooms.
4.2. Operators and visitors must know how to navigate the building.
- Safety and Facilities
5.1 Operators and visitors must be aware of the building’s safety policies and procedures, which may include housekeeping, electrical safety, and hazardous materials handling.
5.2 Operators and visitors must know how to use the building’s facilities, such as security doors, restrooms, and break rooms.
5.3 Operators and visitors must report any safety hazards, facility issues, or maintenance needs to the appropriate personnel.
- Responsibilities
6.1. All new operators and visitors are responsible for attending and actively participating in the building induction.
6.2. The OCS and Senior Operators are responsible for ensuring that their operators attend the building induction and follow the procedures outlined in this procedure.
6.3. The OCS is responsible for providing an effective building induction and ensuring that the necessary resources and equipment are provided to maintain a safe and efficient building.
