VERSION 1.0 – DECEMBER 2023

Purpose: To provide guidelines to operators to ensure the completion of unit signoffs in an organised and efficient manner, maintaining safety of SLSQ services, accurate records and communication.

Scope: This procedure applies to all operators at the State Operations Communications Centre (SurfCom).

  1. Overview
1.1 Operators are responsible for two key aspects: Ensuring the welfare of all units and ensuring the units are signed off at the end of each day.
  1. Roles and Responsibilities
2.1 SurfCom operators are responsible for ensuring that all units are signed off in a timely manner and recorded accurately in LIMSOC.
2.2 Ensure that all necessary reports, and records are properly filled out and submitted by each unit.
2.3 If there are any issues with Units, notify the relevant region supervisor.
2.4 SurfCom operators must be vigilant and proactive in following up with units that have not signed off to ensure that all operators are accounted for and safe.
  1. General Sign Off Procedure
3.1 When a unit forgets to sign-off, it becomes SurfCom’s responsibility to follow up and sign off the unit.
3.2 If a sign-off is overdue the correct procedure is to radio call the unit and wait for a response.
3.3 Establish the units last location and determine if there is cause for concern.
3.4 If there is no concern proceed to Sign the unit off via LIMSOC, noting that SurfCom signed off the unit and the reason why.
  1. Unit Specific Sign Offs
4.1 Patrol Units can be signed on and off independently. If a patrol forgets to sign off via LIMSOC allow 30 minutes before following up with the patrol for Sign off.
4.2 Operation Support and RPAS units will have to contact SurfCom to sign on and off. Allow 10 minutes before following up.
4.3 Officer units must sign themselves on however SurfCom has the ability to sign them off at the conclusion of their shift.
  1. Sign Off Documentation
5.1 All signoffs must be recorded in LIMSOC with the correct information including the unit name, end of patrol statistics, time and date of sign-off, and the name of the operator who signed off the unit.
5.2 If any issues arise during the sign-off process, they must be recorded in the LIMSOC log.
